BetVictor Faces Regulatory Action for Money Laundering and Vulnerable Customer Protection Failures
On 24 February 2022, the UK Gambling Commission (GC) imposed a settlement on BV Gaming Limited, trading as BetVictor, after a regulatory review found the firm failed to comply with anti-money laundering (AML) and customer protection requirements.
The investigation, which commenced following a compliance assessment in March 2020, revealed that BetVictor breached various Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) between 1 January 2019 and 12 March 2020. The infringements included non-compliance with fair and transparent terms and practices, insufficient measures to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, and inadequate interactions with customers to minimise gambling-related harms.
In response to the GC’s findings, BetVictor submitted a remedial action plan within two days of receiving the notice and proceeded to implement the necessary changes. As a result, the company will divest £352,000.00 in gross gambling yield (GGY) obtained due to the failings and pay a total of £1,728,000 in lieu of a financial penalty.
